There are changes happening with the Colorado Sales Tax rules which will directly affect our members and their businesses. The Department of Revenue has stated that the deadline for compliance is May 31st, 2019.
The Simplify Colorado Sales Tax Coalition has been working hard to challenge the new rules by creating the following bill: SB19-006 – Electronic Sales and Use Tax Simplification System - This bill requires the office of information technology and the department of revenue, within existing resources, to conduct a sourcing method in accordance with the applicable provisions of the procurement code, and any applicable rules, for the development of an electronic sales and use tax simplification system. The bill also requires the office and the department to involve stakeholders to develop the scope of work. This bill is to be signed by the Governor on April 11th.
HB19-1240 - Sales And Use Tax Administration was introduced in the State House on March 12th. It is sponsored by Representatives Tracy Kraft-Tharp and Kevin Van Winkle, and Senators Lois Court and Jack Tate. This is a bi-partisan effort to improve the climate for small business in Colorado. The Business Affairs and Labor committee referred it as amended, and it is scheduled to be heard in the House Finance committee on Thursday, April 11th.
